Seminar: A PENNY FOR YOUR THOUGHTS

A PENNY FOR YOUR THOUGHTS is the title of this specialized seminar presented by James P. Bixler, certified appraiser, author and poet. In addition, Mr. Bixler is a Life Member (#3640) of the American Numismatic Association; he has served as a consultant and in other capacities. He has been an appraiser of fine and rare coins for over twenty-five years.

The workshop stretches back to the dawn of coinage, or to about 7th century B.C. In keeping with this long span of time, Bixler invites distinguished guests to assist him in the presentation, namely Herodotus, Caesar Augustus, and Isaac Newton, to name but a few. He demonstrates a group of ancient, medieval, Renaissance and modern coins for attendees to view and examine. The wide variety of coins prove useful to those who wish to expand their skills in grading a coin’s state of preservation, along with its value.

Participants are asked to bring a pocket magnifier of at least 4X magnification.

How do these classes work?

So, we’re going to sit around and watch the pros paint all weekend, right?

No way! This is a hands-on class! Over the course of this 3-day class, you’ll learn the secrets to the million-dollar paint job, and you’ll put your knowledge to use each day, first painting parts, then a fiberglass form designed by Gene Winfield, and finally, under supervision of the masters, you’ll help to create a stunning custom paint job on a complete car.

What exactly can you expect to learn?
The short answer: you’ll learn the Winfield Way. In this unique class, Gene Winfield will teach you the precise method he’s developed for getting perfect results every time: from mixing paint through application and finishing. You’ll learn the exact proportions and timing you need to get optimal results in mixing your paint. You’ll learn how to configure, use, and maintain the tools of the trade, and you’ll get plenty of practice!
Best of all, you’ll learn to apply blended paint for breathtaking results! Gene also reveals his time-tested finishing practices, which yield a perfect, glassy paint job, free of the dreaded “orange peel.” Working varied colors in layers, you’ll achieve depth of color and subtle contouring you never dreamed you could create with your own hands.

What will you take away from this experience?
In addition to the knowledge and confidence you’ll gain from this invaluable class, you’ll go home with a certification in the Winfield Method, and your custom-painted fiberglass form to hang in your own shop, or, if you’ve got a very patient wife, in the living room! Graduates of this course also receive a discount on House of Kolor paint, so they can put their new skills to use on their own projects!

Where, When, and What should you bring?
Classes are from 9 am to approximately 5 pm each day. Bring your can-do attitude and a notebook. Everything else you need will be provided, including coveralls, masks, painting equipment and paint.
